KFCcruelty.com

I love KFC and all.... But I may have to re-think eating there again with this type of news...

"KFC suppliers cram birds into huge waste-filled factories, breed and drug them to grow so large that they can’t even walk, and often break their wings and legs. At slaughter, the birds’ throats are slit and they are dropped into tanks of scalding-hot water—often while they are still conscious. It would be illegal for KFC to abuse dogs, cats, pigs, or cows in these ways.

KFC’s own animal welfare advisors have asked the company to take steps to eliminate these abuses, but KFC refuses to do so. Many advisors have now resigned in frustration.

Please join Pamela Anderson, Sir Paul McCartney, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, The Rev. Al Sharpton, and countless other kind people worldwide by not eating at KFC."

Stella McCartney named Designer of the Year!

BRITISH FASHION AWARDS, 2007

IT was proof, if needed, that British fashion is impressive on an international scale: the British Fashion Awards tonight was a glittering affair as new Model of the Year Agyness Deyn reigned supreme in her long, ragged-trained Giles black dress. "It's my mum on the phone," she said as she took to the stage holding her mobile phone to her ear to collect her award – presented by Roland Mouret. "Yes Mum, it's like a fashion Oscar. Here, have a word with everyone," she added as she held the phone to the microphone so we could hear the excited squeals of a very proud parent. "She's well chuffed," said Agyness, before thanking Hilary Riva, Alexandra Shulman, the Northern Massive, Katie Grand ("for my first Pop cover)", Mario Testino ("for first putting me in Vogue") and Giles for the dress. "Even though everyone keeps stepping on it, it's still good!" The audience was hooked – but we reverted our attention to the job in hand as Zoe Ball (who claimed to have walked "all the way from Brighton in these fucking heels"), hosted the event that saw Stella McCartney take over the Designer of the Year crown – presented by Thandie Newton. "My team really deserve this," the heavily pregnant designer said. "I couldn't possibly manage with three children under the age of three without them." Holding back tears, she dedicated the award to her parents ("I wish my mum was on the phone tonight"), and her husband and children "who make my life worth living". High on the emotion – New Designer of the Year Christopher Kane also dedicated his gong to his sister Tammy – the night took on the highest fashion stakes: Alexandra Shulman hosted a table for winners Anya Hindmarch (Designer Brand of the Year), Tom Binns (who won Accessory Designer of the Year – surprising a crowd whose money had been firmly on fellow nominee Rupert Sanderson), and Designer of the Year nominee Luella Bartley. The great and good of the industry were there – gossiping and table-swapping happily as the cameras were kept at bay outside the ceremony. And the Queen of the Night was, of course, a radiant Vivienne Westwood whose crown of fluffy orange hair made her look more ethereal than ever as she stepped up to accept her award for Outstanding Achievement In Fashion Design. "I want to talk about more serious issues but this isn't the time," she said. "Fashion is a life-enhancing activity and I hope you continue to love it. And I've noticed over the last few years that people are really looking better. Everybody looks great tonight, so I'm pleased about that. On the other hand, in 100 years we're not even going to have enough oxygen to breathe – but I've written a manifesto about that which I hope will help. But now isn't the time." adidas and NBA ALL-STAR CENTER DWIGHT HOWARD

Portland, OR, October 30, 2007 – adidas and Orlando Magic NBA All-Star center, Dwight Howard, announced a multi-year partnership extension agreement. This partnership announcement continues to signify adidas’ already strong commitment to the sport of basketball and the talented young players that are the foundation and future of the NBA. Howard’s extension agreement was negotiated by Aaron Goodwin of GSM. Terms of this extension were not disclosed.

“Having been part of the adidas family for many years, I was extremely happy to be able to extend my relationship with them,” noted Howard. “adidas has always offered me the best products on the market and outstanding service. I look forward to helping grow their basketball business moving forward.”

Howard, starting his fourth NBA season, had a break out 2006-07 campaign, while leading the Magic to their first playoff appearance since 2003. He finished the year with career highs in minutes played (3,023), minutes per game (36.9), points per game (17.6) and field goal percentage (.603). Howard led the Magic in points per game (17.6), blocks per game (1.90), rebounds per game (12.30) and minutes per game (36.9). For all his hard work, Howard was named to his first All-Star game in February and finished the season voted All-NBA third team.

“Having Dwight as a member of the adidas Basketball family for many years to come was a major priority for us,” stated Jim Gatto, Director of Global Basketball for adidas. “This year Dwight was able to establish himself as a future superstar in the league and key player in the future of adidas’ basketball business.”

Currently Howard is a key component of the new adidas Basketball movement, “Basketball is a Brotherhood.” “Basketball is a Brotherhood” is the integrated, digitally led marketing and advertising revolution that does something no other brand has done: it allows today’s greatest players to interact and inspire the next generation of athletes, putting them side-by-side on and off the court. This season the consumer will be able to go to www.adidasbasketball.com and experience adidas Basketball through a series of web episodes and other creative on-line activities that show the true meaning of Brotherhood. “Basketball is a Brotherhood” will introduce the adidas “Team Signature” footwear and apparel collections. For more information on the Brotherhood and Howard go to http://press.adidasbasketball.com/.

adidas named ‘Official Sportswear Partner of London 2012’

adidas unveiled as Tier One London 2012 Partner
Official Sportswear Partnership confirmed

London, September 20, 2007 – adidas has claimed gold with the announcement of their Tier One partnership with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), becoming the ‘Official Sportswear Partner of London 2012’. A host of international sports stars attended the announcement in central London today.

The partnership with London 2012 will be the biggest single investment adidas has ever put into a UK sporting event and includes the financial contribution to LOCOG, kitting out LOCOG’s athletes and volunteers, potential merchandise royalties and marketing activities leading up to the event.

adidas will be the exclusive supplier of branded and unbranded sports merchandise to all London 2012 venues and stores and they will also kit out the approximately 70,000 volunteers needed to man the Games and will provide them with the same level of care as athletes.

adidas will also help Team GB and Paralympics GB secure medals by supplying the most technologically advanced sporting apparel available. In addition, adidas is determined to increase sports participation in the UK by inspiring youth and supporting promising young athletes for the next five years and beyond.

Herbert Hainer, CEO and Chairman of the adidas Group said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for adidas and we are excited to become a Tier One partner of the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. Our heritage and technologies have been inseparable from the history of both the Olympic and the Paralympic Games. So we are proud to be playing a major role in what promises to be one of the best sporting events the world has ever seen. Our deep involvement in the Games will help us to become the leading sports brand in the UK, the largest sportswear market in Europe.”

On the new partnership, LOCOG chairman Lord Sebastian Coe expressed his delight in securing adidas as a Partner of the London 2012 Games, adding: “In adidas we have a partner that not only understands the audience but also understands sport. The long adidas association with the Olympic Games makes them the perfect fit for the sportswear category. No other sportswear brand can claim to be actively involved in 25 of the 26 Olympic sports that will be on show at London 2012. adidas has the ability to communicate and engage with all audiences young and old which will ensure that, together, we can inspire and excite everyone over the next five years and beyond.”

adidas-Ateneo apparel OUT NOW!

Three stripes for the Blue and White

What do current Blue Eagles team captain Chris Tiu, junior guard Jai Reyes, senior swingman Ken Barracoso and former Eagle and now San Miguel Beer center Enrico Villanueva have in common?

They’re all endorsers of Adidas Philippines, which is on its fourth year as official sponsor of all of Ateneo de Manila’s varsity teams, from the grade school to the collegiate squads.

According to Toti Wong, product manager for sports performance and original business of Adidas Philippines, “We decided to offer co-branded Adidas-Ateneo licensed apparel, similar to our licensed collegiate programs with top universities and colleges in the US such as UCLA, Boston College, Kansas, Indiana and Notre Dame, elevating the way we look at our partnership with Ateneo.”

From the start of the sponsorship, there has been a demand for Adidas products that Ateneans see the players wearing but haven’t been able to find in stores.

“Knock-offs have been in proliferation but we wanted to give Ateneans a sense of pride in wearing an apparel line with top-notch quality from a multinational organization,” adds Wong. “We are deeply-rooted in sports and share the same passion and enthusiasm Ateneans have for their athletic teams.”

Says Reyes of the sponsorship, “It feels great to be associated with a internationally famous brand that has the well-being of the athlete seriously in mind. And the product line is really good as it has elements of fashion to it.”

“There are plans to expand to other universities but we are studying all our options,” says Wong, who also noted that UST’s Dylan Ababou, Adamson’s Leo Canuday, Letran’s Rey Guevara, San Beda’s Jay-R Tecson and JR Taganas, and Mapua’s Kelvin De La Pena, are all Adidas endrosers.

“All these players went through the process,” Adidas marketing communications manager Odette Velarde confirms. The company’s customized service was previously available only to its global icons like Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, and Justine Henin, to name a few. “It’s quite an experience not just for athletes but for casual fans as they are involved in the step-by-step design of their shoe that is totally unique to all.”

For the 2007 season, a limited fan wear collection consisting of jackets, polo shirts, graphic tees, and a few accessories will be available through the Ateneo A-Shop and selected Adidas concept stores. The prices range from Php 495 for kids’ tees to Php 1,995 for adults’ jackets. The Ateneo Adidas wear will be available beginning this Sunday during the much anticipated second encounter between Ateneo and La Salle in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament.

The real Ipod killer... CD-R KING!

The first time I bought an Ipod was when they launched the shuffle. Because life is random they said... And I fell in love with the thrill of not knowing what was coming next. Then the geeks at Apple convinced me that 1GB was not enough... I upgraded to an Ipod mini 4GB in apple green.. 4 times the storage size of my shuffle! I felt real cool whipping it out in the gym and getting some curious looks... not everyone had a green MP3 player! Then later on, Apple said, "well, the Ipods we sold you before were kinda big. And color is out. Try the new slim Ipod Nano and Ipod Video!" That's when I said enough.
I admitted to myself that even though these things really make you look cool, there are so many things about the Ipod that suck:
1. They're expensive.
2. When they're damaged, expect to buy a new one since fixing them will cost the same as buying a new one.
3. Synching sounds thrilling in the beginning, but nothing beats the plain old Drag n' Drop
4. As with trendy apparel, after a year, they're soooo out of style. Today, I can no longer use my dated 4GB Ipod mini.
5. There'll always be someone who'll have the same Ipod as you have and later on, someone will always have the latest model that will be better than yours.
6. All its own and third-party made accessories are over-priced. Half a pair of a small sock for 500 bucks???
Enter CD-R KING's line of MP3 PLAYERS. They're dirt cheap, easy to operate, dirt cheap, they look exactly like Ipods, and THEY'RE DIRT CHEAP! Their shuffle look-alikes go for 990 bucks and their Nano look-alikes go for 1,290 bucks. They're built to last too! I left my CD-R KING Nano clone (or what I call my Ipod Micro) in my shorts which ended up in my laundry. My Ipod Micro was ruined! It wouldn't turn on. After having dried up the next day, it was working again! It was as if nothing happened! True story! And even if they stopped working, it would only cost me 1,290 to get a new one! As for the cool factor, since they look exactly like Ipods from afar, who can tell they're clones? =)
Forget Zune, Sony and Creative... CD-R KING is the real Ipod killer!

Another goodbye...

Some friends are with you almost your whole life that you kinda take them for granted. Until they have to go. My bandmates have been like brothers to me, and it was sad to see Ger, Gene and even Patrick go. Ger was the Jughead... there was never a dull moment around this guy... Even when things were getting serious, he'd always have something funny to say. Not to mention the BASS this guy provided... Lupet. We'd have sound engineers scratching their heads trying to figure out how a Filipino had soul-like BASS in him. Gene naman was the guy who provided us with instant credibility - he had the hook up and we certainly needed it. Plus, what can I say about the dance moves???

Now, Jools... Papa JG, mr. "spiels", mr. if you weren't going to bring it to a gig, he'd let you know about it, "bose??? that's consumer-type $hit", the band leader, the songwriter, our Teddy Riley. The guy who kept us going, especially in the early years. We'll miss you bro. Hope you can sing at the wedding next year.

May 2007 updates

Wow... it's been a long time since I wrote about anything here... So many things happened last month that luckily, I was able to capture the highlights in my K610i...

We held our national elections first week of May... I ended up voting for 4 senatorial candidates and abstained the whole way. Here I was with my cousin Teng. My parents should have come with us but their voters' records mysteriously disappeared 4 years ago... Yes... Only in the Philippines.

We voted in a public school near our house. It was sad to see how kids could learn in these tiny wooden desks in a school right next to the MRT. Imagine having to sit in these terribly uncomfortable chairs, hear the train every 5 minutes and deal with all the smoke coming from EDSA while trying to learn something from disgruntled, underpaid teachers... How sad...

Anyway... On to better news... We finally opened our 500-sqm. store in Ayala's newly-opened Trinoma.

Too bad I forgot to take pictures of the window... Oh well...

Then we flew to Boracay for our annual company outing! One thing I learned though... It wasn't as much fun without Bianca. I tried to put on a smile for her though...

Back in Manila now... And anxiously waiting for the new Fantastic 4 movie, which starts showing in a couple of days.

Here I am hanging out with my inaanak who's about to celebrate his 1st birthday. I got him a new pair of adicolor's! He's gonna love them!

We found this interesting concept at the Shangrila mall called TMV. This is the evolution of the record store. No exposed CD cases. Only touch screen monitors and headphones where you choose a CD, listen, and order. Great concept. Only you can do this at home too... FOR FREE...

Bianca and I discovered this new ska band, The Space Flower show. These guys are really really talented. Wish they could get more gigs... THIS IS SKA!!!

Oldies but goodies!

I hope it doesn't go this way.

After the Golden State Warriors' loss yesterday, I think we have to brace ourselves for the inevitable... A repeat of the most uninteresting Finals match-up between powerhouses Detroit and San Antonio two years ago. The last time these two met, the Finals TV ratings were the lowest ever in a decade (may be exaggerated). This series has all the ingredients for a nightmare Final - Low scoring, defense oriented, international cast, slow, half-court execution... And that means we sell less NBA apparel. Looking past my selfish interests, the league will have a lower expected income based on lower interest of sponsors... even our local broadcaster, BTV, will also have a tough time selling to local sponsors. So David Stern PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE... talk to your officials and mandate them to allow GOLDEN STATE and PHOENIX to advance instead of Utah or San Antonio. The East was already doomed with the early and pending exits of Miami and Detroit.

Opening Day of Spiderman 3

Look at the screens... Red indicates seats are taken.

Firetrap

If you're looking for a place with cool graphic tees and jeans, try Firetrap in Tiendesitas. Bianca and I were looking for a gift for my brother's birthday and we saw some pretty looking tees here. Of course, it had the occassional fake Polo shirts, but aside from that, their originally produced tees look really really good.. Plus they only do limited runs so you won't have to deal with the embarrassment of seeing other guys wearing the same shirt.
This is the pair i want! 1,500 bucks only! Not bad... Might go back this weekend to get it.

Spiderman 3 Opening Day

Was gonna work the whole day today... Until we saw a TV ad featuring Spiderman 3... and realized it was opening today! We rushed to Shangrila to get ourselves tickets. Of course when we got there, the seats were almost sold out. Fortunately we were able to grab two seats at the Shang Premiere Theatre. Bianca liked part 2 better... This one looks like a remix version of the 2nd, with a similar storyline and odd collaborations. But I say it's still worth the 250 pesos. With free popcorn, hotdog and softdrinks!

UGLY. UGLY. UGLY.

I really don't get the whole crocs phenomenon. I know what I'm saying may be done in bad taste since they're somewhat of a competitor... But seriously, they are UGLY. i don't care whether they're comfortable... THERE ARE OTHER SANDALS WHICH LOOK WAY WAY BETTER WHICH HAVE ALREADY BEEN INVENTED. Crocs make your feet look ugly. Please... Save yourselves from being fashion victims.

Day 5, part 4: The Forbidden City

I posted this last night, but something went wrong with the HTML coding and I totally lost what I wrote...

After walking around T-Square, we took an underground passageway to teh Forbidden City - which earned its name because it was forbidden for ordinary citizens to to see the emperor's face. Well, I'm not sure exactly but I kinda deduced from what my travel buddy Agustino told me... I don't know which emperor was the greatest, but I'm quite sure it ain't Mao... So why is his face plastered on the outside wall??
The Forbidden City is where ancient relics such as treasure, artwork and instruments are still kept. Here's a set of early writing instruments which caught my eye.
The Forbidden city is also famous for having kept 9,999 concubines for the last emperor of China. The number is kinda puzzling, that's because the emperor didn't want to exceed his father's number of 10,000. What a horny family ey? I bet this was his favorite hall Long Xi Guan - the Hall of Intensive Happiness!!!
Hmmmm... I wonder why it's called as such... This must have been the ancient version of today's Air Force 1. Here's a picture of one of the beds located in this Hall.
